Obesity, the mere mention of the word is a little scary to most. However in today' s fast living world it is increasingly prevalent, with almost half of the world's population suffering from it.

This is alarming. We are now looking at a generation that will develop obesity related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, blood pressure and joint problems etc. before they are 40, diseases that our forefathers only got in their late 60s.

However the good news is that obesity can be overcome. We have a range of exercises as well as dietary advice that will help both prevent and rectify the problem. Two of the biggest factors in causing obesity are salt and sugar. These ingredients are not necessarily obvious on food labels as they are often listed under names most people don't know for instance names for sugar include custard powder, fructose, glucose, maltodextrin, maltose, and that is to only mention a few.

Women On The Run takes particular interest in teenage concerns in this area and is very aware of the embarrassment that the issue may hold for both parent and child. Consequently Cathy has devised successful health and fitness plans sensitive to the needs and feelings of teenagers with weight issues, these include

  • Exercise guidelines
  • Advice and guidance for parents in implementing health and fitness supports for their teenager

Once an individual has gained a significant amount of excess weight it is acknowledged by experts in the area of obesity as usually being difficult or indeed impossible to lose without assistance from an outside source.
